| What a reliable Runner it had been! |

In July 1999, the car would have been running for 30 years. Many questions frequently asked were :- Can this car be used as a daily transport without sudden breakdown? Or can it travel extensive out of town? Will it still goes fast? The pictures below will put at ease many such puzzles! Our domicile is in the central part of Peninsula Malaysia and the furthest single trip out within the country is approximately 600 kilometers. Places beyond that distance will lie across over the national border of Thailand. Most examples seen on this sites are chosen from destinations within Thailand.

From the Malaysian town of Bukit Kayu Hitam, the journey to Nakhon Pathom is 973 kilometers or 1,016 kilometers to Kanchanaburi. So far we had gone for a straight 12 hours drive.

On this rare occasion that I was alone re-entering into northern Thailand from Taichilek, Burma. I was left without the benefit of a model for this photograph. That occasion, the car did 4,600 kilometers in 7 days round trip from Kuala Lumpur. |

Some place nearer to home, this signage is located at a strip of land only 15 kilometers wide, at Prachap Khiri Khan. Moving inland from the coast, there is only a Thai police outpost at the Burmese border. Dan Sing Kong, does it sound familiar eh?. A mid-way point in the Isthmus of Kra. |

We were not always that lucky to be able to criss-crossing across Thailand without a hitch. The car had been attended to in numerous towns and cities. Among them, the Volkswagen dealer in Surat Thani, the Izusu dealer in Petchburi, the Nissan dealer in Phrae, a road side electrician in Kanchanaburi and our specialist friend in Lampang.
