The factories that are still in business are in the Matang and Langkawaii district. The remaining forest are systematically "thinned" to generate timber to feed the industry!
Most factory buildings are at the fringe with convenient jetty to serve the huge wetlands!

This sign here displayed inside each factory, demonstrates the level of supervision and also close regulations of such factory!
Besides legalising its operations, the forestry department conducts close supervision of its production processes to account for the amount of timber extracted from the wetlands!

Here the raw logs input and charcoal output are physically controlled by regular spot checks!

A visit to a Charcoal factory will be greeted by immense thick smoke that enveloped the neighbouring land.
Most factories we saw were well kept. Logs ready for use are neatly stacked for quick retrieval.
