| Fried "O'chien" Omelets fried with a special species of tiny oyster had being a popular preparation for those settlements by the sea. Very common in Penang and all major towns in Thailand. For a long time now, we couldn't find anything in Penang that is outstanding. Still grading the stall No. 7 by the Malaccan Esplanade as the best. At last, we have found one in Penang and simultaneously, another in Kampong Koh Sitiawan.
As matter of personal preference, I have tasted so many stalls around the country, from north till south in Pontian, I would choose her preparation.
With a tinge of mischief, it is best to catch them on the way up. Once the volume of businesses increases, the personal touch and special taste disappear. The stall opens for business from twilight until early hours. Located at the junction Presgreaves Street [3rd Road in Hokkien] and McNair Street - among a small cluster of street hawkers. This stall has perched herself in the long driveway of one those house on the left. Alternatives -Apart from this stall existing incognito, there are other places serving the same preparation. Sorry, sound bias, we cannot find a good competator. According to locals, they have never heard of this new stall that opens in the evening. They still stay on with the competitor in the neighborhood just a stone away in Old Wembley Park of Noordin Street. To many out of town, they would tell you that the one in Caravan Street and Kimberley Street is the best. By the way, both stalls mentioned, open after 1.30 pm. That's when the freshly harvested Rock Osyters get delivered to the stalls. |
