Pasembur

This is a very tasty preparation of deep fried stuff. Preferred by many looking for exotic food. Over the years, they too had included terms to make their business more comprehensible to visitors.

In other parts of Malaysia we would call this preparation as "Indian Rojak" Of course it varies with the style served here in Penang. Hence, the sign board shows "Rojak" a mixture, "Cucur Udang" - deep fried shrimps fritters, and of course the original term "Pasembur"

This stall at the Old Esplanade has been in business for years and stands out as a good example. He has huge stocks of food and a large varieties
Over the years, I could see the choices increasing from traditional preparation from coconuts meat based to that Soya bean derivatives.

Then to increase its appeal, the seafood section had prawns, squids and crabs that are of respectable size, as seen here.

The price of these seafood do not come cheap. have no fear, the price of each item is on display.

A word of caution though, in your enthusiasm, you may have taken more than you need. Have a final check on the cost of your total selection before having it finally prepared! The stall is opened for late afternoon and late night customers.

Alternatives -Apart from this familiar stall, there are many other stalls around the island. Among the popular hanging out places is - the glutton square at the Bagan Jerma end of Gurney Drive. There are a cluster of few stalls to pick from.
