Klang Bak Kut Teh - which one? |
This page chooses a fairly new shop in Eng Aun Estate, eastern part of Klang Town |
What type of food?Breakfast As the name implies, it is Bak Kut Teh, the one and only style. Original. The Klangites have bragged about having 300 shops in Klang serving this food. Started off as a heavy meal for the port workers, this style of cooking is now a delicacies. With inflation, it is getting beyond the reaches of common folks. Highly controversial and territorial, what is your preference.? |
Who goes there?Strictly regulars and followers of the taste. What do I think? For that few occasions that I was there, I enjoyed the meal with meat in a bowl. The conventional style. The taste is very close to that of Malay Street, that I liked. Not many stalls offer that taste, even in Klang. I have not tried the same serving in Clay pot. Should not taste much different. Now they are charging Rgt 8.00 per bowl. Throwing in the cost of rice and tea, the cost per pax will easily exceed Rgt 10. Me, getting used to a budget of Rgt 10 for brunch, I need to shift my paradigm before commenting . How to get thereThe direction given on this page is getting to the shop in Eng Aun Estate. You must have some knowledge as to some landmarks in Klang. The Hokkien Association along the Batu Tiga Road. Coming from PJ, the association at right at the Flyover, on the left side of the dual carriageway Opposite the association, next to the right lane of the dual carriage is Berkeley Gardens. From PJ, choosing the side road and then taking the Roundabout beneath the Flyover. At 3 O'clock is the access road into Berkeley. Watch the left side, 2nd junction, into a small side lane. 150 meters down, at the "T" junction. That is the main road for Eng Aun Estate. From the position of that junction, you look straight across the road, a square of 3 storey shop lots. As the eye view straight, is the shop selling Bak Kut Teh. This particular shop! No not the first shop at the corner of the block, but 4 shop lots down. The story behindEvery one that you get to meet in the Klang valley, will tell you that they have heard of a place that serves outstanding Bak Kut Teh in Klang. I have been on a wild goose chase for years. And likely to continue for many more years. Up till now, I hate going back to Malay Street. That shop are catering for the old followers. Old also in the sense citizens in vintage years. This shop caters for Yuppies and open late. I find the taste acceptable. That's it. What would I recommend? For once, there is nothing special that I could recommend. Except alerting you that there is this shop, quite well accepted by the locals. Let's say, one of those that attracts a larger crowd. Remembering that in Hokkien Association, the stall too had a reputation. Has its own followings. Just before the Flyover in Kampong Java, is an area that has the largest gathering of stalls. A couple of them, attracting record size crowd each morning. For the die-hards, it must some dedicated stops with the own blend of flavor. |
