Salted roasted Ducks -Sze Ngan Chye

At the corner of Petaling Street and Cecil Street of Kuala Lumpur

What type of food?

Roasted Ducks - Take-away as long as stock last.

Cantonese has a preference for Roast duck. Unlike the famous Peking Duck, this whole duck is cut up into small chunks and eaten a meat, while stripping the bones away.

In Kuala Lumpur, there are shops serving roast duck with rice in almost every street corner.  Restaurants then have one variation, i.e. duck that is cut open and spread flat before grilling. That is Peh Par Duck. Here the meat are tasted in another texture.

With Sze Ngan Chye, his preparation was rumored to be of Szechuan style. The duck roasted in salt.

Who goes there?

Customers who love the taste, acquired taste. But it is more like a novelty, passers-by and regulars who take them home like a souvenir. Those who like to introduce that taste or vary their choice of menu for dinners.

What do I think?

I love ducks' meat particularly roasted duck. I love his preparation as well. Not common and unusual. But at Rgt 38 per duck, it is the regular price from the up market stalls. The run of the mills stall are offering their ducks as low as Rgt 22. I would say that Rgt 28, would be a fair price for an average size duck. Yes, I would patronize the stall, perhaps once or twice in a year.

How to get there

Very simple. There would be Petaling Street & Foch Avenue. Walking down, depends on which way. From Foch avenue and into Petaling Street, the first street corner on your left. From that corner, continue on the same side of the road, 3 shop lots away. On the side of the road. Usually with am\n umbrella.

The story behind

There is no story background. This guy or her predecessor had operated the stall as long as I remembered.

What would I recommend?

I would say "try it". But take note that this is a "take away" stall.
