What type of food?Every one is craving for Curry Mee. In Kuala Lumpur, most of the noodles are served in Cantonese style preparations. There are now a couple of stalls in Petaling Jaya, particularly in SS2 area that are offering authentic Penang style Laksa or to be exact Curry Mee. They are Lorong Seratus Tahun and Lim Mee Yoke. What is so special about authentic Curry Mee? You have to be a Penangite to understand that. Hopefully many could. Ah Beng here is a self made man. He likes to experiment with food. He prepared Noodles in soup with extraordinary results. Our favorite with him is Curry Mee, Lam Mee and Mee Java. Lately once in a while he would also offer Prawn Mee. Har Mee.

Who goes there?Typical of all coffee shops in Malaysia, walk-ins who need food. Then in the case of Ah Beng, he had his group of fans. What do I think?I find the Curry Mee, very close to the taste that I like. The Prawn Mee is a cut above many, but not extraordinary. I still prefer the preparation by my old friend "Rocky Restaurant" in PJ new town. As to the rest of his preparations, I am not keen to review. Not because they are below par. Because I have no preference in taste. How much I like the curry Mee? I rationed myself to 2 visits per month. The taste in Lorong Seratus Tahun was quite authentic. We deliberately went back to Penang, for the taste in that renounced stall. Yes, somehow we felt that it tasted better. Back in PJ, the serving was good but somehow I felt I needed that larger Rgt 5 bowl. That makes the noodle bit pricey. Lim restaurant serving at Rgt 3.50, was a fair price, the ingredients were also budgeted. Ah Beng was more superior as the serving at the revised price of Rgt 3.50 was larger than that of Lorong Seratus Tahun. Then, the hand pounded chili that he made, had the special fragrances. Of course having said all these, nothing can be that good to brave the additional distance to be traveled. The toll and the traffic. In this respect, we retirees were the luckiest lot. We could go any time we wanted. How to get there As I mentioned somewhere, giving direction is tricky business. Especially in urban areas. First - coming from the direction of PJ, you will hit the Sungei Buloh toll house on the LDP. After that, follow the road to join the MRR. Now just before the first flyover to join the MRR, keep left. Going beside and below the bridge. You are now in the vicinity of Sri Damansara. Traffic making a "U" filled all the lane. You are to continue straight, direction 12 0"clock. Cross the traffic light under the MRR. Then into the next sections of Sri Damansara. Just go straight, pass one set of traffic light to a "T" junction. About 500 meters from the MRR Highway junction. Turn left. Go straight once more, pass one junction and bend. Up a gentle slope, you will see shop houses here. Before you reach blocks of flat on your right, you should see "999" Restaurant. There you are. The story behindJust another simple explanation. We are constantly on a look out for stories food outlets that reach the grapevine. This destination was just a routine. What would I recommend? I would say, try out all his preparations. |
